GeoSpace

The GeoSpace make your spatial data come alive! The unit comprises an instructional space equipped with high-speed computers suitable for GIS research and an interactive display space equipped with powerful multi-touch display systems that provide an enhanced visual experience for patrons. Patrons could also borrow equipment like unmanned aerial vehicles (aka drones), and GPS units to collect field data from the GeoSpace.

The GIS experts in the GeoSpace assist with the geospatial needs of Texas State members. They provide support (in the form of guidance) for GIS related coursework, research, and teaching. The staff could also assist patrons in finding reliable spatial data sets. Patrons can schedule an in-person or zoom consultation, email or call our GIS Service Specialist for help with their geospatial needs. The GeoSpace also organizes free periodic workshops on basic to advanced geospatial techniques that are open to all interested Texas State University members.

The GIS Services unit maintains 22 64-bit Windows 10 workstations with the following specifications:

- Intel Core i7-9700, 8 Core processor, 12MB Cache, 3.0GHz, 4.7 GHz Turbo w/UHD Graphics 630, 32 GB RAM, M.2 512GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive

- Each workstation is also equipped with a 34-inch Dell curved monitor.

Available Software

ArcGIS Pro

A professional desktop GIS app for viewing, exploring, analyzing, editing, and sharing (via the internet) maps and data. Within ArcGIS Pro, one can create tables, charts, 2D map, 3D scenes, spatial animations etc.

Esri StoryMaps

Explore a variety of story maps to get inspired! Esri Story Maps allow you to combine maps with narrative text, images, and multimedia content to tell compelling stories.

A spatial statistics program for analyzing point incident locations.

A primarily remote sensing application for analyzing aerial or satellite imagery.

(pronounced geo-dah; it stands for Geographic Data Analysis): A free and open-source software tool that serves as an introduction to spatial data analysis.

A 3D interactive globe that provides a platform for viewing and digitizing earth features.
