Introduction

The Journal of Interactive Veteran Experiences (JIVE) is an innovative journal that is designed to serve the student veteran population at Texas State University. The journal is open access and will publish regular editions that highlight scholarly and creative works by students who have served in the Armed Forces. In this way, JIVE serves multiple functions:

  • To provide a space that is exclusively for student veterans to gain valuable publishing experience in the academic landscape
  • To provide a space that is exclusively interested in sharing the stories of student veterans as they navigate their post-service life
  • To engage the general public in a discourse with veterans in a welcoming and encouraging environment

The editors and creators of JIVE recognize that while there are many veterans who are members of the academic community, there is still no place for those students to share their stories, academic work, and creative expressions. JIVE strives to provide a space that bridges the civilian-military gap by publishing non-traditional scholarly work alongside traditional scholarly work. By this we mean, we recognize the power and importance of storytelling as part of the healing and transition process, and encourage students to participate by submitting their stories in the form that feels best for them.

We are open to submissions of all kinds, including art works, poetry, creative writing, video recordings, audio recordings, and scholarly articles. Students are encouraged to utilize the resources available at Texas State University Libraries Alkek One floor. More information about submissions, resources, and author guidelines can be found at the links below.
