Aims and Scope

The Journal of Interactive Veteran Experiences (JIVE) recognizes the lack of inclusive spaces for veterans in the publishing industry. It aims to provide a space for veterans to share their experiences in a format that is comfortable for them and gain valuable publishing experience. JIVE was founded on the values of inclusivity, support, and respect. In the words of our editor, JIVE ardently believes “that the voices of our veterans deserve to be heard, understood, and appreciated.” This journal is a humble attempt to bridge the gap between veteran’s experiences and our understanding of them as a community.

This platform was created for the unique purpose of providing a space where there are no limitations to how veterans share their stories. While it may be an unconventional journal, we believe that the veterans in our community deserve to have their stories and work shared in a space that is designed specifically for them, keeping in mind that storytelling can take many forms.

“In this interactive journal, we aim to capture the full spectrum of veteran experiences – from the triumphant moments to the challenges, from the pride in service to the vulnerabilities faced upon return to civilian life. We hope that, through this endeavor, we can provide healing, education, and inspiration to veterans and civilians alike.” Letter from the Editor, Dr. Heriberto Arambula, Editor-in-Chief

JIVE is currently accepting work from veterans associated with Texas State University. This includes undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, faculty, staff, alumni, and family members or close relations.

We accept submissions of any format and are keen to work with our authors and creators to digitize their work. Submissions may include, but are not limited to scholarly articles, creative writing, works of art, video and audio recordings, items of memorabilia.
