Submission Guidance

Instructions for Authors

We are only accepting submissions from veterans associated with Texas State University at this time. We anticipate expanding our reach in the future, so if you have any questions, please contact us. Association with Texas State University includes the following: students, alumni, staff, faculty, and the family members of any of these groups.

If you are interested in submitting your work to the journal, please send a digital file attached to an email to JiveEditor@gmail.com. Please include your name, association with the University, military affiliation, and a brief abstract describing the submission. If you have a researcher profile that you'd like to associate with your submission, please also include this information in the submission email.

For files that are too large to attach to an email message, special instructions can be provided. Please reach out to the editors in order to move forward with your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting your work, please ensure that the following criteria are met:

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration for publication in another journal. For extenuating circumstances, please contact the editors.
  • The content of the submission is the original work of the submitter, or permission has been granted to the submitter on behalf of the author. In such cases, the author should be identified either by name or anonymously.
  • While graphic materials may inherently exist in this type of publication, a content warning should be included with any submission that contains sensitive images or other information. The journal reserves the right to include content warnings on materials and to deny publication of submissions that are comprised of graphic materials that do not fit within the scope and ethics decided upon by the editorial board.

Publication Timeline

The journal will publish a special issue once a year that highlights the winners of our scholarship competitions. Outside of these special issues, submissions will be published on a rolling basis.

Copyright Notice

Every submission that is approved for publication and subsequently published in the Journal of Interactive Veteran Experiences will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) 4.0 International License.

In order to be considered for publication, authors must acknowledge that first publication rights to their original work accepted for publication is granted to the Journal of Interactive Veteran Experiences.

Authors who are interested in pursuing a different license for their work may inquire about doing so with the journal editor-in-chief. The journal will not publish material that is not made available open access.

Authors retain the copyright to their work and their work will not have any restrictions outside of those defined by the CC BY-NC license (or other).

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Aims and Scope

The Journal of Interactive Veteran Experiences (JIVE) is an innovative journal that is designed to serve the student veteran population at Texas State University. The journal will publish regular editions that highlight scholarly and creative works by students who have served in the Armed Forces.
